15 Bean Chicken Soup

Filed under: Bear Tracks Recipes — Audra @ 12:26 PM

2 Bags of 15 Bean Soup Mix Beans – located in the bean isle
(I don’t use the packet of seasonings that come with it as I use my own)
1 large onion
Organic Baby Carrots
Celery
Garlic
Hot Sauce – Your favorite
Smoked Turkey or Chicken Sausage
EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil

You will need to rinse the beans & soak overnight in the fridge. I start the soup in the early a.m. so it will be ready by lunch. Start by taking the beans & boiling them in water…I use our filtered water. Boil for about 10 minutes, then drain the water to cleanse the beans even more. Then, fill with water & start them cooking on medium to med/high. After about 30 minutes, chop up as many carrots & celery as you like & add. Cut your choice of meat into small chunks then add. Next, add a little bit of EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) or your favorite oil. Then, add all of your special seasonings/spices. I use garlic, onion, an organic mixture of spices from Costco & Hot Sauce to give it a little kick/flavor. Stir all ingredients as you add them to mix well. Then, stir frequently while cooking. Simmer until lunch & you will have the best tasting soup! Enjoy…it is so Yummy! You can also use pork if you prefer!

Have some tortilla chips on the side!!!

Bare Feet on Carpet

Filed under: Bear Tracks Tips — Audra @ 12:11 PM

Bear Tracks Tip of the Week: Did you know that wearing house shoes or “clean” socks in the home is better for your carpet than bare feet. You deposit all of your body oils onto the carpet which attract dirt over time…and this can’t be vacuumed out of your carpet it has to be cleaned out! :) Have a great day!

Organic Produce

Filed under: Healthy Habits — Audra @ 12:25 PM

Organic is usually more expensive to buy but if you can afford it then it is always better for your family to eat! There are some things that you don’t have to buy organic if you would like to save some money…..

Onions – don’t see as many pest threats, which means less pesticide spraying. Look for firm onions when buying them.

Avocados – have thick skins that protect the fruit from pesticide build-up.

Corn – Sweet corn may take a lot of fertilizer to grow, but you’re unlikely to end up with any pesticides on the kernels.

Pineapple – You won’t be eating the tough pineapple skin, which protects the fruit from pesticide residue. As with all your produce, you should rinse the pineapple before cutting.

Mango – Sweet mango flesh is protected by its thick skin from pesticides. Still, you’ll want to rinse under water before cutting open.

Asparagus – face fewer threats from pests such as insects or disease, so fewer pesticides need to be used.

Peas – Sweet peas are among the least likely vegetables to have pesticide residue, according to the Environmental Working Group’s latest survey of government data.

Kiwi – the peel provides a barrier from pesticides. Give them a rinse before cutting.

Cabbage – doesn’t hold on to so many pesticides because a ton of spraying isn’t required to grow it. What it does hold onto is beta carotene: It’s a superfood!

Eggplant – Maybe it’s the thick skin, but eggplants are among the least likely to be contaminated by pesticides, according to the Environmental Working Group.

Papaya – Pesticide residue stays on papaya skin, but be sure to give them a wash before slicing open. Look for those that are slightly soft and show no signs of bruising or appear shriveled.

Watermelon – With that rind, watermelon has a natural defense against the onslaught of any chemical.

Broccoli – Conventional broccoli doesn’t retain so many pesticides because the crop faces fewer pest threats, which means less spraying.

Tomatoes – were on the 2008 Dirty Dozen list of foods with the most pesticide residue, but the latest update finds them cleaner than most. Why? The Environmental Working Group isn’t sure. If you don’t grow your own look for local farmers markets.

Sweet Potatoes – Not only are sweet potatoes unlikely to be contaminated with pesticides, they’re also a superfood, packed with Vitamin A and beta carotene.

What a week!

Filed under: Bear Tracks Green Cleaning — Audra @ 3:50 PM

We enjoy our business & working in our clients beautiful homes making their indoor environment healthy! This week was a really busy one. We had many beautiful rugs to clean over the past few weeks & we delivered a lot of them. What our clients say is that they look so much better than they did & they are glad that they used us instead of the other person they used before…which feels good after the hard work we put into cleaning them. We are happy that it shows & our clients notice. We enjoy being able to go to a different city each day to clean instead of just one area. We were in Franklin, Bellevue, Nashville – Green Hills & Belle Meade areas, Hendersonville, Gallatin & Goodlettsville this week…and to start of next week we will be going to Spring Hill on Monday!

Since we are pet urine & odor specialists we see some of the damages that our loving pets leave behind. Cat urine is more potent than dog urine but both are bad enough odors. Sometimes just normal cleaning with our Big Bear Truck will take care of some of some of the mild problems in carpet, but sometimes we have to do subsurface treatments to get to the source of the odors. We did a really bad cat urine decontamination this week which took a few hours in just a few areas, but in the end the odor was gone & we saved the carpet!

We also cleaned upholstery that had a few troubled areas where pets have either had an accident on or just used by the pets. Upholstery is meant to be used…not just to look pretty so it requires maintenance too. Sometimes more than carpet because of all the body oils from people & their pets, pets using them as their beds so you see pet hair, oils & soiling…sometimes urine too! Upholstery can be a huge allergy for sensitive people. This is why you should think about getting upholstery cleaned so that all the soils don’t break down the fibers & cause premature aging. If we can maintain clients furnishings & flooring then it will not only help keep their indoor environment healthy, but will save the landfills & save them money.

Most of our new clients are ones that really care about being eco-friendly & therefore seek our services because of the extremes we go through to be “green”…which is not easy! It is a way of life for us though even in our personal life. I enjoy recycling & have reduced our household trash down to a bag every other week and can wait to put out our can on a monthly basis instead of weekly. It just kills me to see all the cans piled high each week at the driveways. I also recycle our containers that we buy for our business once we are done with them. It is a way of life in our house & business!!!

We also clean for clients who flip houses because we can make the carpet look new again as we are told by clients. We had one this week that are flipping a beautiful home and they really go to extremes to put nice things in the homes they renovate. They don’t skimp at all & also didn’t think all the carpet had to be replaced…which would add to the landfill. They were right because it cleaned up amazing well so now they saved money on that project too. That leaves them more budget to use towards other things in the home.

We feel so blessed to have a great business & to have so many amazing clients! That is the thing we love the most about being self employed & meeting so many different people over the years…we love people! Everybody is different in their own way & you gotta love them for what they do or accomplish! We enjoy our different experiences each day…different cities, different homes, different clients…unique is the better word…and that makes for a great day! Another perk is meeting our clients pets…they are all so cute! Our doggy, Girly has had to get used to smelling other animals on our clothes when we get home, but she used to be jealous! :)

Just thought I would write a little about the different experiences this week. We have had a busy week & enjoy making our clients happy!

Our clients trust us to be in their home & also know that we can handle any cleaning situation. Spring Cleaning

Filed under: Bear Tracks Green Cleaning — Audra @ 3:51 PM

Now is the time for you to get your indoors cleaned up after this long snowy winter we just had. Temperatures are starting to go back up, even after the rain/snow mix we had earlier today. Can’t wait for the 50’s that we will have by the end of the week. We can clean up all of your flooring…carpet, tile, wood & rugs. We can also take care of any of your upholstery & mattress cleaning needs. Remember that we are a true “green” cleaner & believe in improving your indoor environment…not coming in your home to clean quickly & turn the dirt into mud. We give you the most thorough cleaning that you have ever experienced before. We can accomplish dry to the touch before we leave in most homes.

Cheapest is not Best!!!

Filed under: Bear Tracks Green Cleaning — Audra @ 3:41 PM

There are so many price ranges in our industry. Have you ever heard of “You get what you pay for”? Well that rings true in the carpet cleaning industry. Many cleaners are still charging what they did in the 70’s. Since our industry is not regulated so many jump into our industry & undercut everyone, run their equipment all day for nothing, don’t have insurance or can’t afford it, are uneducated, bait n switch (low price then when they get there price jumps), use inferior equipment & just simply don’t have the knowledge it takes to clean. The list goes on & on…so that’s where we come in. We have been in business for now 16 yrs. & as soon as we started began going to our Industry Related Certification Classes/Schools to regulate our company. We are all 3 Certified Master Cleaners which is the highest level trained…and attend our C.E.C. Courses to stay up to date on our training. We believe that if we stay on top of our education, give our clients the best in quality of service, have the latest equipment & treat our clients right then we can sleep at night knowing that we have done the best job we can! We can only do 1- 2 jobs a day to be able to produce the quality that we do where other companies can do more, even up to 12 – 14 jobs a day. We believe in quality NOT quantity!
